The Municipality of Bologna is the project leader of CTE COBO, coordinating activities and monitoring innovation in the area. The initiative, which forms part of the La Via della Conoscenza project, aims to transform the metropolitan area into a sprawling centre of digital innovation, technology transfer and support for urban sustainability.

The Metropolitan City of Bologna, the regional entity in charge of choices relating to the strategic development of the local area, coordinates and supports CTE COBO’s acceleration and open innovation programmes, providing funding for local startups and businesses.

For CTE COBO, the Municipality of Ravenna supports the Municipality of Bologna in the area of general management and governance. It also makes the sites of the Energy, Environment and Marine Research Centre and incubation and co-working space coLABoRA available, overseeing their general management.

University of Bologna (UNIBO), one of the biggest and most active Italian universities in the area of research and innovation, provides CTE COBO with spaces equipped with cloud and edge cloud resources and augmented/virtual reality visors.

On behalf of CTE COBO, Almacube, national innovation catalyst that attracts both young talent and established players to collaborate and revive the entrepreneurial ecosystem, carries out Culture&Creative vertical acceleration activities in collaboration with Creative Hub and manages innovation events, such as Open Innovation projects, Hackathons, workshops and webinars.

For CTE Cobo, AdSP, the public entity responsible for the regular and unscheduled maintenance of the common areas of the port of Ravenna, develops 5G testing zones to enable Digital Twin services connected with the port area and critical installations off the short of the Ravenna coast, particularly with regard to the port and logistics. It also provides support for the acceleration of startups for the application of the emerging technologies activated by 5G in the same areas.

For CTE COBO, CINECA, point of reference for the national and international scientific community in the area of high-performance scientific computing (High Performance Computing, Services for universities and research institutes, Information systems for the Ministry of Education, University and Research), performs activities connected with the development of services based on the use of HPC and Quantum computing enabling technologies and provides spaces and technology assets for the development of innovative new ideas and services and PoC.

WiLab, the National Wireless Communication Laboratory of CNIT, the National Inter-University Consortium for Telecommunications, carries out research for CTE COBO on emerging 5G/6G technologies, Internet of Things and Quantum Technologies, technology transfer activities for SMEs and startups, and knowledge transfer and communication activities.

It also provides spaces dedicated to research and testing in the area of Internet of Things, 5G/6G, and Quantum Communications.

Creative Hub Bologna, multifunctional music, culture and creative centre in Emilia Romagna, carries out Culture&Creative vertical acceleration activities for CTE COBO in collaboration with Almacube, providing sectorial expertise. It also makes spaces and technology assets (studio for recording audio/video AR/VR content) available for development and entertainment activities, startup development and project services.

Gellify, the first innovation platform set up with the aim of creating a unique ecosystem involving businesses, digital B2B startups and investors, manages startup acceleration activities for the Innovative Urban Services vertical of CTE COBO. It also organises open innovation events, hackathons and workshops.

On behalf of CTE COBO, G-Factor, national reference point for the acceleration of startups, particularly in the Life Science, Fintech & InsurTech and AgriTech & FoodTech sectors, manages startup acceleration activities for the industry 4.0 vertical in collaboration with BI-REX.

START 4.0, Competence Centre Association for the Security and Optimisation of Strategic Infrastructure, is one of the 8 highly-specialised Competence Centres promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) to facilitate the adoption of Industry 4.0 enabling technologies, focusing in particular on the security and optimisation of strategic infrastructure. For CTE COBO it promotes the proprietary tools of the “Scan & Survey” Open Lab.

With its next-generation infrastructure - 5G, LTE, fibre - TIM is Italy’s leading ICT company. For CTE COBO it supplies solutions, architecture, technologies and standards to promote 5G trials, creating functional and effective items for the inclusions of the most relevant Verticals and Use Cases.
